Hi my name is Tina Alesi. I am an artist who mostly paints uses collage and digital art to express my ideas on cultural change. I am preoccupied  by the decorative aspects of life.  Including craft, fashion, lanuage  and how we are influenced and what is considered beautiful or acceptable . The things that seem to be so important to us at one point in our lives, can become discarded the next. Objects, language and images can become unattractive, and sometimes repulsive, with change. This devaluation of objects and cultural aspects of pop culture that had so much significance at an earlier time makes me wonder why and how this happens.   The work I make asks the questions of who we really are and how the truth of our deepest desires can get lost in the commercialization of pop culture.

My work includes various media of recycled materials, like  fabric, clothing, records headline statements, doilies and paintings. I am exploring colour, geometry and paint, to express the change in culture and what is considered attractive or has aesthetic merit in the current climate.

I hope the works I make have a quirky, humorous reaction to irony of contemporary culture.
